9 Unique Ways to Romanticize Your Life Beyond Aesthetics

Feel like sharing? 💛

Monotony. Hustle culture. Productivity.

I think all of us are just done with everything.

We want to live more than , bad just exist. We want our lives to be joyful and meaningful.

Romanticizing life is like a quiet rebellion against this world obsessed with performance and optimization.

It helps to go one step deeper and makes ordinary things more magical.

It’s a way to make your day more colorful.

When you romanticize an otherwise mundane, normal task, it becomes something to look forward to. Something that will bring comfort to you and brings life to your day.

Here are 9 unique ways to romanticize your life that will make you happy.

1. Create Tiny Rituals for Transitions

Think of your day like a book. Would you feel excited to read a book without chapters?

No right.

Chapters divide the book meaningfully and make it easier to read it. Completing a chapter of a book gives a sense of progress of the reading.

Imagine your day to be like a book.

Right now, your days looks like a book without chapters.

It’s one long block of time which loses its meaning and becomes dull and boring as minutes becomes hours.

To make your day more colorful and to control your day rather than let it control you, create tiny rituals for transitions.

This is how it helps:

  • It helps to break the monotony of the day
  • It gives a chance to forget the bad chapter of the day and move onto something fun and relaxing
  • It signals your brain to shift your focus to the present

Here are some fun ways to do this:

a. Light a specific scented candle before deep work.

We all know the importance of deep work but struggle to do this. Its because we carry the stress of long, bad day with us. It feels impossible to disconnect yourself from it.

A specific scented candle will help to train your brain that its deep work time and switch off from the inside noises.

b. Play one song when you come back home

I have always been guilty of carrying outside world to home.

Fight with friends, bad day at work – I used to bring everything with me to home.

A place that was supposed to feel cozy and comfortable was burdened with my own thoughts.

One ritual to not let the outside world to hijack your home is to create a ritual that screams you are home.

Play one song every evening when you reach home.

It could be a high energetic song as soon as you enter and dance your heart out. Or a calm song while making your evening tea. Or both. You decide.

c. Take a Different Route Home Every Weekend

When returning from college or work, take a different route back home only on weekends.

It signals your brain that week days are over and it’s time for some fun and relaxation.

Spend a little time in nature before rushing back home.

Or watch children playing in the park.

Instead of taking a bus, go home by metro.

Create a ritual just for the weekend.

Tiny rituals help contain a bad mood to a single chapter of your day instead of allowing it to spread through the entire story.

2. Become a Collector of Moments

Earlier I mentioned to divide your day into chapters, right?

Have you noticed how some scenes or some sentences from a chapter of a book stands out.

You love them so much that you might even quote it while having conversations.

Same could be done for your days too.

Collect moments from every day life that makes chapters of your day memorable.

Example:

  • The grandmother arguing with a vegetable vendor.
  • A child proudly carrying a giant school project.
  • A strange sentence you overheard on a bus.

Start intentionally looking for such things in your day to day life.

Your life will start feeling like a novel or even more cinematic because you are paying attention to narrative. This will help you see life more than just an optimization and productivity project.

Write these down in a journal or write it on a piece of paper and put in a jar.

Over time this becomes a personal collection of tiny moments which would have been lost if you hadn’t paid attention.

3. Have Recurring Personal Rituals

Don’t you feel excited when you have something to look forward to? It could be meeting with a friend, a solo date or maybe just buying a new book.

Life becomes boring and mundane when you have nothing to look forward to.

Creating personal rituals which are meaningful to you is one way to romanticize your life.

This becomes something you do for yourself and is free from the rules and expectations of society.

Personal rituals could be weekly, monthly or seasonal.

Examples for weekly rituals are:

  • Taking an everything shower on Sundays
  • Watching a movie in your PJs and while having your favorite food
  • Sunday special slow morning routine

Examples for monthly rituals are:

  • Solo date to your favorite peaceful spot in the city
  • Virtual call with your long-distance friends
  • Buy one fancy thing for yourself

Examples for seasonal rituals are:

  • Spring: Create a “fresh start” day – declutter your room, donate items you no longer use, and set intentions for the months ahead.

  • Summer: Have a yearly beach, lake, or nature day where you unplug from technology and spend time outdoors.

  • Autumn (Fall): Write a reflection letter about what you’ve learned during the year and celebrate your personal growth with a cozy evening.

  • Winter: Have an annual “slow weekend” dedicated to rest, reading, journaling, hot drinks, and planning your goals for the coming year.

These rituals become something that you will look forward to every week, month and season.

4. Develop a Relationship with Places

Some places feel like magic, isn’t it? Somehow it feels like a warm hug that you desperately need.

You might get too busy in life that these places simply slip from your mind.

It gets buried between deadlines and meetings and reports. The list is just never ending.

Maybe you never took a moment to appreciate locations and places that have the potential to make you feel relaxed.

Developing a relationship with places is a simple yet overlooked way to romanticize your life.

Some of the places can be:

  • A specific table at a café
  • A specific aisle of a book store
  • One commute route

Visit these places repeatedly. Be there in the moment, intentionally.

Notice how these places change as days and seasons pass by.

Come back to these places when you need warmth and comfort.

5. Create Secret Projects

Romanticizing life is about finding beauty, meaning and enjoyment in ordinary moments.

How about making this more fun by turning it into a secret project?

Not to be done for social media or for money.

You are going to do this for yourself. This secret project could be your legacy.

How cool is that!

Some ideas for this are:

  • Photograph every interesting door in your town
  • Keep a list of beautiful names you encounter along with its meaning and origin
  • Review every tea/ coffee you drink
  • Document work life observations (without violating privacy)

This is another way to make ordinary things in your life more meaningful.

6. Celebrate Endings Not Just Achievements

Make endings ceremonious. Not just of big life events such a change of job or saying goodbye to a city.

Celebrate endings of small events of day-to-day life.

All of us are so focused on achievements and new beginnings that we forget to celebrate meaningful endings.

They deserve to be celebrated too.

Some of the endings to be celebrated are:

a. Finishing a difficult book

    • Write your favorite quote and what you learned from it.
    • Take a photo of the finished book and add it to a reading journal.
    • Buy yourself a special coffee or dessert.
    • Write a short review for your future self.
    • Place the book on a “completed books” shelf and admire the progress

    c. Leaving a Phase of Life

Example: Finishing college, leaving a job, moving to another city, ending a project, turning a certain age

    • Create a playlist that reminds you of that period.
    • Write down what the phase taught you.
    • Visit a place that was meaningful during that time.
    • Take a farewell walk and intentionally reflect on the memories.
    • Write a letter of gratitude to that chapter and keep it or burn it as a symbolic goodbye.

    d. The Last Day of a Habit

Example: Ending a 30 day challenge, completing a workout program, ending a daily study streak.

    • Reflect on what the habit gave you.
    • Record the results and lessons learned.
    • Treat yourself to something small.
    • Take a photo or screenshot as a keepsake.
    • Decide whether the habit should continue, evolve, or end completely.

Why should even bother to do this?

Because it is important to pause before new beginnings, to reflect on what the journey has taught you and to be grateful for the memories.

You can celebrate the endings by:

    • Going on a solo date
    • Having a special meal
    • Taking picture to mark the ending
    • Write a letter to your past self
    • Or anything else of your choice

This can turn ordinary chapters of your life to something more meaningful.

    7. Give Themes to Weeks or Months

This is another way to turn ordinary weeks and months into something to look forward to.

Most of us set goals and time block the entire week to maximize productivity and get things done.

Giving themes to weeks or months along with goal setting is a great way to romanticize life.

Some of the ways to do this are:

    a. The Cozy Week

    8. Leave Traces for Your Future Self

Most people give surprises to others. How about you give surprises to your future self.

This would be a great way to romanticize your life.

Life feels more magical when different versions of yourself are in conversation with each other.

Some of the ways to do this are:

    • Hide a note inside a book you’ll likely read next year.
    • Write an email and schedule it to arrive six months later.
    • Put a small object in a box with a note explaining why it mattered.
    • Create an “Open on a Bad Day” envelop

You are investing in your future self in a fun way. This is main character energy.

    9. Create a Personal Archive

How about treasuring a piece of the moment instead?

A personal archive is a collection of small things that capture who youa re right now.

    Some of the ideas include:

    • A movie ticket
    • A handwritten note from your friend
    • Ticket for a museum entry
    • Restaurant and café bills

Make a scrap journal or store them in a box.

Years from now, you’ll be able to open it and meet a version of yourself that no longer exists. You’ll remember not only what happened, but also how you felt, what you hoped for, and what mattered to you at the time.

Personal archives are fun ways to turn ordinary moments into future treasures.

    Conclusion

Romanticizing your life is more than just adding aesthetics.

You can live a more fun, meaningful and cinematic life just by extracting more from the present.

By doing so, you become the main character of your life. You stop becoming a passive observer and truly start living your life.
