1. Choose a Theme for Autumn
There are a lot of ideas to romanticize fall. It would be fun to follow a specific theme throughout the season and choose activities that matches this theme.
Its a fun way to personalize how you spend this season rather than just trying to do everything the internet is throwing at you.
Some of the ideas are:
a) The Slow Fall
Sometimes, I feel the entire world is running a marathon with a finish line that keeps moving further and further away.
It takes intentional efforts to slow down in this modern world obsessed with speed and optimization.
If you have been functioning non stop this year or can’t remember when the last time you slowed down, the slow fall season might be what you need.
I just feel that the fall season exists just to remind us to embrace slow living.
Some of the things you can do to have a slow fall season are:
- Waking up 20 to 30 minutes before for unhurried mornings
- Journaling to calm your mind
- Slow cooking to actually enjoy the process
- Reading to stay away from screens
- Walking to enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage
Just doing one or two things from this list will help you slow down at least a little bit.
So, are you going to have a slow fall?
b) The Creative Fall
All of us are using our brains lesser and lesser – be it for thinking, writing or creating anything. Artificial intelligence has made this even worse.
We have to actively choose hobbies and activities to protect the cognitive abilities.
There was a time when this was the normal, when this didn’t feel like a task. Now, it does and that’s crazy!
So, if you have retired the creative side of yours let this autumn season be the time you start being creative again.
Or maybe you’ve never had a creative hobby ever?
Perfect! Even better reason to get started with one.
Some of the ideas you can try are
- Painting
- Writing
- Photography
- DIY crafts specific for fall
- Knitting
- Crocheting
- Drawing
Which of these is sparking an interest of your creative side?
c) The Social Fall
Too busy to catch up with friends and spend time with family?
Make this season the time to reconnect with your loved ones and stop taking them for granted.
Stop postponing the girls day out or movie nights and picnics and dinners.
Some of the ideas to have a social fall are:
- Hosting friends
- Having meaningful conversations
- Writing hand letters to friends and families
If you have long distance friends and family, take the initiative and do all these virtually.
Hop on a call with them when you are cooking or having dinner.
Decide the exact date and time when you will call otherwise its not happening for sure.
Don’t let distance or different time zones be the reason why you aren’t connecting with your loved ones.
d) The Cozy Fall
The season screams cozy so why not have a cozy fall!
You don’t need to break you bank to make your life cozy this fall season. Just a few cheap purchases and intentionality will help you make this season feel more magical.
Coziness heals you and makes your inner child happy. It’s a vibe, a feeling that will ease you.
Imagine a cozy corner in your home where you can spend time with yourself throughout the season?
Here are a few things you can do to have a cozy fall:
- Decorate your bedroom with fairy lights
- Fall theme colored curtains, bedsheets, blankets, socks, dresses and anything you can afford to buy.
- Make a tent in your room and decorate it with fall themed things
So, what does coziness mean to you and how will you have a cozy fall?

2. Romanticize Fall Through Your Senses
We are all chosen to be prisoners of digital life by our own will.
I know it sounds a bit harsh but the truth always aches.
All of us spend a lot of time scrolling, rushing and thinking about what happened and what will happen, that we rarely engage with the world around us.
Fall gives us a lot to notice from the beautiful colors of leaves to the crispy wind to the smell of hot beverages. But do you actually immerse in them, appreciating these by being fully present?
Romanticizing fall doesn’t mean doing 100 different things. You can experience the season on a much richer and deeper level by engaging all your senses
a. Let Fall Have a Visual Identity – Sight
Autumn is visually stunning. It’s natures being at its best.
It’s a shame if we don’t enjoy this, isn’t it?
Every day of this season be intentional and notice one thing that makes this season visually stunning.
It could be:
- The beautiful foliage
- The fall themes dresses
- The color of the food
- Autumn flowers
- Cozy interiors
How has the life around you changed because autumn has arrived? Slow down and notice this.
You know what is even better?
Journal about it everyday. Or click one photo of the thing you noticed about fall everyday.
This would be so fun!
b. Give Fall a Signature Scent – Smell
Smell might be the most underrated of all the senses in my opinion.
Sometimes a scent can unlock the pandora box of memories, right? If this is true for you I would dare to say you have lived a rich and beautiful life.
If you have never given importance to smell in your life, do it in this season.
Pick one or two scent that represents the season and incorporate it in as many places as possible.
What scents are we thinking here? It could be cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, sandalwood, apple, pumpkins and much more.
Think beyond candles. Find this scent in perfumes, room fresheners, fabric comfort liquids and anything else you can think of.
This scent should be associated to autumn. It should unlock fall memories whenever this scent hits your olfactory nerves.
c. Eat with the Season – Taste
Every season has its own culinary identity, its own recipes. The season feels incomplete if you don’t have these food and drinks right?
Include the food that represent the fall as much as possible throughout the season.
Even if you don’t have the time to make elaborate recipes or bake cookies, add a few things that represent the season at least once a day.
It could be a fruit or a drink.
Maybe you could make one or two recipes that require more time and effort during the weekends.
Don’t rely in takeaways or eating at restaurants and cafes only.
Make your own food too along with trying out from restaurants and cafes.
I would also recommend you to focus on savoring these food while having them. One of the best way to do this is to not using your phone or watching TV while eating.
If not always do it as many times as possible.
This is the best way to enjoy the season through the sense of taste.
d. Build an Autumn Soundtrack – Sound
I have deliberately mentioned soundtrack instead of playlist.
When we think of sound, the first thing that comes to our mind is songs.
But sound can be more than songs.
Imagine the sound of crispy leaves, the drizzling of rain – you could play these sound in your room while relaxing or doing work.
And of course, you can create a playlist of songs that is dedicated to this season.
I want you to think beyond songs and see how else you can incorporate different sounds that represents autumn throughout the season.
e. Make Fall Feel Good – Touch
Autumn means cozy. Everyone knows this.
But how often do you enjoy this coziness through the sense of touch?
This fall season pay attention to the texture of warm blankets, cozy sweaters, soft socks, warm drinks.
Even the light rain falling on skin, or the chilly wind caressing your face – embrace all these that makes your sense of touch come alive.
Think about how can you pay attention to how autumn makes you feel against the skin, not just how it looks like.
Choose a Fall Signature Item
Another way to engage the sense of touch is to choose something from your closet that represents the fall season and repeat it as much as possible.
It could be a sweater, bag, shoes anything.
Have one for your home and one for outdoors.
This will give you a main character seasonal energy.
3. Turn It Into Your Own Season
One of the best ways to romanticize fall is to have one small ritual just for this season.
Make a simple ritual that is effortless and doesn’t take much time. It should be the one you can actually do not a 17 step cozy routine.
Here are two ways to do this:
a. One simple ritual repeated everyday
The urge to change how you spend every minute of the day is real.
I want to remind you that its a trap. Trying to change everything at once means you end up doing nothing.
Choose a time of the day when you want to have a ritual -morning, a golden hour evening or night and create a simple one that lasts only 5 to 10 minutes.
A simple example of a golden hour evening routine can be like this:
- Open the curtains and let that golden light fill your room. For a few minutes imply stand and enjoy the sun rays breaking through your windows or balcony.
- Maybe light a candle or make a warm drink to mark the end of the day.
- And spend the evening doing things that will help you spend the fall according to the theme you have chosen.
Which time of the day you can spare sometime to have a ritual depends up on your routine, responsibilities and lifestyle.
b. One simple ritual repeated once a week
If you can’t do a fall ritual everyday, create a simple one that can be repeated just once a day every week.
It could be something like:
- Make baked pumpkin oatmeal while listening to your autumn playlist and the read a book for an hour in the morning.
- On Friday evening, wear your favorite cozy sweater and socks, have your warm drink and journal.
You can make these rituals based on the themes you have chosen for this fall season.
4. Document the Little Things
What do you want to remember about this autumn?
Capture these moments in your journal.

Write down the tiny moments, take photographs, save little notes, preserve the things that is a proof of how you spend the season.
You don’t need to make it aesthetic.
Go ahead and make it messy using minimal things. This is your keepsake and you can make it however you want it.
The goal isn’t to create the perfect aesthetic, Instagram worthy seasonal journal. It is to create a memory of the season while you’re living it.
I would say that this is the icing on the cake, the step that will help to complete romanticize fall season.
Conclusion
You can romanticize fall season by making subtle changes and intentional choices to your day.
This fall choose your theme, engage your senses, create a ritual and document it and let yourself enjoy it.
