How to Prepare for Autumn

1. Start with the Feeling of Fall

Just thinking about lower temperatures, crispy wind and the cozy vibes itself makes the heart feel joyful.

What is that you like the most about this season? How do you want to ‘feel’ this season?

Create a cozy seasonal mood board with ideas and pictures about how you want to spend this season.

Once you have an idea about how you want to spend this season, it’s easier to make intentional decisions and choices to bring these ideas to life.

And please don’t make preparing for autumn another life project.

The idea here is to be intentional about it and have fun.

2. Give Your Home a Cozy Fall Reset

Here are some ways to bring cozy fall vibes to your home:

a. Out with Summer, In with Fall

As we are transitioning to fall, its time to switch the vibrant color bedsheets and blankets to more warmer texture and color.

Goodbye to tropical prints and say hello to more warmer patterns.

Wash those heavy blankets, cute socks and sweaters that have been tucked away for months. Keep it ready for lower temperatures.

Start introducing warmer looking colors like beige, brown, orange and deep red.

You don’t have to change your entire bedroom for this. Just switching small things can change the vibe of the room.

b. Make it Cozy

Try to make the home feel cozier by adding few simple things like rugs, scented candles, softer lightings, cushions etc.

Coziness is a feeling.

The moment you enter home, you should feel the inviting warmth of the room.

Create a dedicated little corner where you will spend time to unwind. It could be for reading, journaling, enjoying morning drink or to simply look outside the window.

This is the simplest and the best thing you can do elevate the coziness factor of your home.

3. Bring fall vibes into your kitchen

Kitchen might be a place you might forget while thinking to make your home feel cozy and match the season.

With minimal efforts and spending, you can make turn the kitchen also into a cozy spot.

Here are ways to prepare your kitchen:

a. Decide on recipes to try and drinks to make

What seasonal recipes you want to make? Any new ones you want to try?

Make sure to stock all the necessary ingredients required to make your comfort drinks.

Also, stock up ingredients for comforting meals. As the temperatures are going to drop you need to change your diet plans accordingly to stay hydrated and healthy.

b. Decorate kitchen

Just like bedsheets and blankets were switched to warmer colors, you can switch a few items in your kitchen too.

The aprons, hand towels, dish towels – all of these can be the ones that match this season

Some of the cute inexpensive things you can buy are:

  • A fall themed mug
  • Mini ceramic pumpkins
  • A small vase with dried autumn leaves
  • A wooden or ceramic bowl in fall themed colors to store pumpkins, apples or pears.

Simple things can drastically elevate the mood of a space.

Which item will you be adding to kitchen this fall?

4. Build a Cozy Fall Wardrobe

Its time to layer up and level up your autumn fashion.

Match your main character energy to that of the season.

Bring out the sweaters, cardigans, socks and boots.

You don’t need to buy new clothes, Focus on layering with the clothes you already have to create a new style for the season.

Take a few minutes to declutter and organize your wardrobe.

Plan your outfits in advance, which ones to layer, which ones to keep aside for spring and summer and so on.

5. Go Fall Shopping

After reading all this don’t you feel like doing some autumn shopping?

You definitely don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe or house makeover to enjoy fall.

First, create a budget for shopping. How much can you realistically spend for fall shopping?

Go to local thrift stores to buy small, cute things to bring in the vibe of the season.

The goals is to buy few things with minimal budget to bring coziness to your room, kitchen, wardrobe and life.

6. Embrace Slow Living

Autumn is the time to slow down. That does without a doubt.

It will be fun too but both of us know how much planning and preparing is required to pull off the holiday season.

So, make sure to enjoy slow living this fall.

Have a fall morning routine – wake up slower, enjoy warm drinks, start your day without the hurry as much as possible.

In the evenings read a book, watch a comfort show, bake cookies or do anything to intentionally unwind and relax.

For this you need to decide which books to read and shows and movies to watch.

Take some time to create a simple fall routine that you can actually follow.

7. Create a Fall Bucket List

There are some things that feels better while doing it in fall. Every season has its own charm.

Fall is all about slowing down.

Creating a fall bucket list is a fun way to enjoy this season to the fullest.

Think of all the things you wanted to do after the hot summer seasons – evening walks in the crisp weather, visiting a pumpkin patch, apple picking, bon fire with friends or simple spending an evening wrapped in blankets and binge watching your shows – the list seems endless isn’t it!

So, take out some time to write that bucket list.

Bucket list aren’t about big plans. It’s about the things that you do to enjoy the vibes of this season – no matter how small or silly.

Your bucket list should make you feel like this is how i want to spend my autumn.

8. Review Summer

One of the best ways to slow down is to acknowledge the end and beginning of seasons.

It means that you are in the present, noticing life happening around you.

As much as it is important to prepare for autumn, it would be incomplete if you don’t properly end the summer season.

And its more than just changing bedsheets and wardrobe.

It’s about taking a few moments to sit down and journal how the season went by.

What were your favorite summer memories? Did the season make you feel happy?

You could just free write whatever comes in your mind about how you spend the summer season.

The most important part here is what did you learn, what you want to carry to the next season and what to leave behind.

Every day is an opportunity to start again. Every season is a reminder of this.

Conclusion

A little preparation can go a long way to enjoy this season.

I hope this blog post has given an idea about how to prepare for autumn.

Small, intentional changes can make fall feel more comfortable, fun and cozier.

Happy Autumn!
